Volunteers are at the heart of LESLA Alliance. Our work is community-led and made possible by people who choose to give their time and skills to support others and participate actively in community life.
Volunteering enables us to create welcoming spaces, deliver educational and community activities, and encourage civic participation across Long Eaton. Whether visible or behind the scenes, every contribution plays a part in strengthening connections and supporting our charitable aims.
Volunteering with LESLA Alliance takes many forms and may develop throughout the year in line with our charitable aims and community activities.
Opportunities may include:
• Supporting educational events and heritage activities
• Helping with community gatherings and shared spaces
• Offering practical assistance behind the scenes
• Taking part in structured, community-led projects and initiatives
We aim to keep volunteering flexible and proportionate, recognising that people have different interests, availability and capacity, while ensuring that roles are clearly defined and supported.

We are committed to creating a positive, supportive and inclusive volunteering experience. Volunteers can expect:
• Clear information about their role and responsibilities
• Appropriate guidance, supervision and safeguarding support
• Respect for personal boundaries, time and wellbeing
• A safe and welcoming environment
Volunteers are supported by LESLA Alliance and are never expected to take on responsibilities beyond what has been agreed or that fall outside the scope of their role.
In return, we ask volunteers to:
• Treat others with respect, kindness and dignity
• Work within agreed roles and boundaries
• Act in a way that reflects LESLA Alliance’s values and charitable aims
• Inform us if circumstances change or additional support is needed
Some roles may require additional guidance, training or appropriate background checks, depending on the nature and level of responsibility involved. All volunteering is delivered in line with our safeguarding and volunteer policies.
If you’re interested in volunteering with LESLA Alliance, we’d love to hear from you.
Getting involved usually starts with a conversation about what you’re interested in, how much time you have, and how you might like to contribute.
LESLA Alliance is developing a programme of community-led charitable activity designed to advance education, promote civic participation and provide proportionate support where needed within Long Eaton.
Our work is informed by lived experience and community engagement, and delivered through structured educational, volunteering and heritage-based activities. The examples below reflect the types of programmes we are developing as the organisation grows.

We are developing a Community Hub as a welcoming space where people can come together, connect and participate in community life.
The Hub will host structured community activities, volunteering opportunities and informal gatherings that encourage conversation, shared learning and mutual support in a relaxed and inclusive setting.

We are exploring Out & About activities that encourage people to engage with their local surroundings and participate in shared community experiences beyond the home.
These activities are designed to promote connection, confidence and active involvement in community life, particularly for individuals who may be experiencing isolation.

Be a Friend is a planned, volunteer-led companionship activity centred on connection and presence.
Through simple, meaningful interactions such as conversations, shared time, and check-ins, this initiative aims to reduce isolation and encourage participation in community life. The focus is on light-touch companionship and connection, delivered within agreed boundaries and our safeguarding framework.

LESLA Community Table brings people together to prepare, share and enjoy food in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
These gatherings are designed to encourage connection, conversation and active participation in community life, particularly at times of year when people may otherwise feel isolated.
Community Table activities are volunteer-led and focus on shared experience and belonging within the wider Long Eaton community.

Alongside regular activities, LESLA Alliance delivers community events and fundraising activities throughout the year in support of our charitable aims.
These events provide opportunities for volunteering, civic participation and shared learning within the Long Eaton community.
Volunteering at events may include supporting:
• Educational and heritage-focused gatherings
• Community celebrations and shared spaces
• Fundraising activities
• Seasonal or one-off community initiatives
