LESLA Alliance is a community-led charitable organisation rooted in Long Eaton, created to honour and preserve the legacy of the Windrush generation and their descendants, while serving the wider Long Eaton community.
We bring people together across generations and backgrounds through educational heritage activity, volunteering, civic participation and proportionate community support.
LESLA began as a grassroots Association shaped by lived experience and local relationships. What started as a small community effort has grown into something more.
As our activities and reach have expanded, so has our responsibility to the people we serve, the volunteers who support our work, and the community we represent.
That growth has led us to strengthen how we operate, plan, and govern our work for the long term.
LESLA Alliance is our new name, and we are now a registered charity strengthening community life in Long Eaton.
Founded to honour the history and contribution of Windrush Generation settlers, we continue that legacy by supporting residents, encouraging civic participation, and creating opportunities for connection, learning and collective action.
Community is in our Roots
Our charitable status reflects our commitment to strong governance, transparency and long-term sustainability, serving Long Eaton with integrity and purpose.
The Long Eaton community is at the heart of everything we do.
LESLA Alliance exists to strengthen, connect and support people across Long Eaton. Our work includes celebrating and preserving the legacy of the Windrush generation and their descendants, supporting older people and those experiencing isolation, and encouraging young people and emerging community leaders to participate actively in community life.
Everyone is welcome in all that we do. Participation is never dependent on supporter status or ability to pay.
LESLA Alliance exists to:
• Strengthen and benefit the Long Eaton community through education, civic participation and inclusive community action
• Reduce isolation through connection, companionship and proportionate support
• Promote volunteering, skills development and community leadership
• Celebrate, preserve and share the history and contributions of the Windrush generation and their descendants for public learning and education
These aims guide our educational programmes, volunteering activity, partnerships and fundraising.

We believe in the potential of young people and the importance of creating spaces where they feel seen, supported and encouraged to grow.
Through connection with positive role models, volunteering opportunities, skills development and active involvement in community life, we support young people to build confidence, develop leadership abilities and contribute positively to their community.
Our approach focuses on encouragement, exposure and empowerment, helping young people participate actively, explore their ambitions and take confident next steps.

Supporting older members of our community is an important part of LESLA Alliance’s work.
Through companionship, shared activities and welcoming community spaces, we help reduce isolation and encourage connection. From sharing conversation over a cup of tea to supporting participation in community events, our focus is on dignity, inclusion and active involvement in community life.
We believe older people should feel valued, respected and connected within the community they call home.

As part of our educational and cultural work, LESLA Alliance celebrates and preserves the legacy of the Windrush generation and their descendants within the wider Long Eaton community.
This may include:
• Culturally rooted activities and gatherings that are open to the public
• Educational initiatives shaped by lived experience and historical learning
• Community-based events that honour history and encourage participation across generations
While some outreach activity may focus on engaging members of the Windrush generation and their families, our programmes are open and accessible to the wider community.
This reflects our commitment to preserving and honouring Windrush heritage while promoting shared understanding and inclusion.
